Thrilling competition: A head-to-head-race for the ITH-Bolting-Cup

Dry weather conditions and an outside temperature of comfortable 17° Celsius made for a enjoyable competition for all athletes. The field of 130 single starters was completed by 25 relay-teams who consisted of three athletes each, dividing up the three disciplines swimming, cycling and running between them. The big question befor the race was: Will three-time-champion and Ironman-Hawai-starter Frederik Martin be able to continue his winning streak at the 4th edition of the ITH-Hennesee-Triathlon? Frederik, however, found a serious competitor in 20-year-old David Wetzel – Meschede local and emerging talent. Being head-to-head throughout almost all of the three disciplines a captivating battle developed. In the end, it was Frederik Martin who crossed the finishing line line first, up only 7 seconds and with a total time of 01:05:31 – the ITH-Bolting-Cup is his now. Both athletes showed great sportsmanship and applauded each other’s efforts after the race. “Before the competition I would have been happy with a 2nd place”, David Wetzel admitted to the local newspapers. “Swimming turned out to be perfect for me, but Frederik is the far better runner”. Tobias May, starting for the club SV Würzburg 05, finished with the third best time of the day.

European-Mountainbike-Champion Birgit Jüngst-Dauber is the fastest woman

As fastest woman in the field, Birgit Jüngst-Dauber from Hatzfeld / Eder finished with a total time of 01:16:54 – a great result for the European- Mountainbike-Champion of 2003 and former winner of one of the toughest relay races worldwide, the TransAlp Challenge.
